Students often ask for a list of interesting websites providing articles on IT, internetworking, and security.
I hope that you find something interesting here. If you have another IT news website, that you think would interest others, please let us know.

Chris McDonald.

  • Slashdot - News for nerds, stuff that matters.
About 30 articles per day, on science, technology, critiques of contemporary IT practices, and IT's impact on society and the law.

  • Hacker News (a.k.a. Y-Combinator)
About 600, yes 600, articles per day, on just about anything related to computing, technology, and the computing's impact on society. Not curated, many articles are repeated throughout a day, and you could easily waste a lot of time here (I do).

  • Ars Technica - (not a typo)
Both a daily news website, and one providing exceptionally detailed reviews of new products. About 15 new articles on weekdays.

  • AndroidCentral News - news and reviews about Android hardware, software, and rumours.
About 50 articles per day, mostly focused on smartphones and Android apps.

  • Appleinsider - news and reviews about Apple hardware, software, and rumours.
About 15 articles per day, often showing their bias toward all things Apple, and having to fight battles with similarly over-excited Android users.

  • cnet - a general IT news site.
About 100 articles per day, often focusing on bigger companies, such as Apple, Google, IBM, Microsft; and IT product reviews.

  • Engadget - ...the definitive guide to this connected life.
About 50 articles per day, focusing on gadgets, smartphone, devices, new hardware releases, emerging uses of technology.

  • Google's Technology news
About 30 distinct news stories per day. Automatically generated ranked lists of headlines and links to IT news, no commentary.

  • Linux Today - news about the Linux operating systems and applications.
About 15 articles per day, a bit too much Microsoft bashing.

  • phoronix - news about the Linux and open-source.
About 15 articles per day, often with very detailed discussions on Linux source code.

  • The Register - Networks section, Security section
News about Internetworking, computer security, and government policies. About 50 articles per day, not too technical.

  • Whirlpool
An Australia Forum website with many categories of discussion, including broadband, the NBN, Australia's IT industry, and ISPs.

  • ZDNet (Australia) - a general IT news site.
About 30 articles per day, often focusing on bigger companies, such as Apple, Google, IBM, Microsft, NBN; and the changing IT and online security/privacy landscape.
