Professional Skills Workshops 2023

CITS5206 is the capstone unit for the Masters of Information Technology program. A capstone subject is taken during the final year of study and is of significant scope. It ideally involves a team project conducted in conjunction with a real industry client and assessment rubrics that assess the quality of artefacts and the quality of the methods of their creation, so demonstrating achievement of both technical outcomes and of professional skills such as project management, leadership and teamwork.

Professional skills workshops will be live and face to face (or streamed) on Thursdays from 3pm in the CSSE 2.07. The workshops are led by industry experts and are interactive and hand on so students are expected to attend all workshops in person.

Workshop guides and reading are available from https://websense.github.io/SoftwareSkillsModules/. Lecture recordings and workshop handouts will be shared in the CITS5206 LMS (for copyright reasons).

Professional skills will be assessed by a take home test to be completed during the mid-semester study break. The questions for the test will be similar to the questions used for each of the weekly workshops, requiring a short answer of around 300 words per question. Practice and formative feedback will be provided during the workshops. The take home test contributes 20% towards CITS5206 assessment.
