Database of performance metrics of wave energy converters

Ocean waves are a significant resource of 24/7 baseload renewable energy still waiting to be tapped. Over the years, numerous engineering concepts have been proposed, suitable to different environments and end-user requirements. In order to advance this growing industry sector to its full potential, solutions need to be cost-effective and cost-competitive with established terrestrial renewable sources.

We would like to create a database of performance metrics of various wave energy converters (WECs). We will build the database from existing data in the literature, which will be used to calculate various performance metrics for each WEC, which can be used to assess how the WECs measure against each other.

Users will be able to upload the power performance curve of a specific WEC and other relevant parameters. The system will then process these into various metric scores, which will be displayed against the scores of the rest of the WECs in the current database. This will be integrated on the WERC website (https://marineresearch-gs.com/wave-energy-research-centre/).
