Mobile application to provide sleep information to adolescents with autism spectrum disorder

Sleep problems are experienced in up to 83% of children with autism spectrum disorder. The most common sleep problem being insomnia, which includes sleep onset delay and/or frequent night awakening. Currently there are various pharmacological, behavioural, and parent-education interventions available for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder, each with various levels of success.

The issue is current sleep interventions are targeted towards teaching the parents of adolescents with ASD on how to implement good sleep routines, sleep hygiene (dark rooms, turning off electronics etc). To date, no sleep interventions have been developed to be used directly by adolescents with autism spectrum disorder. A sleep app developed to be used by adolescents with autism spectrum disorder will allow them to increase their self-determination and feelings of independence.

The aim of this project is to build a phone application that would be suitable for adolescents with autism spectrum disorder to use daily to improve their sleep problems. You will develop an app that will allow the users to do the following:

You will be provided with various sleep information to be included in the app. Note that the daily information provided by users will need to be accessed via myself and other administrators.
