A wechat-based survey tool for Chinese international students
WeChat is the most commonly-used social network app among Chinese international students. This app has a 'mini-program' function, which allows third-party developers to create 'sub-apps' within the WeChat ecosystem. I am currently leading a research project that looks at the experience of Chinese international students in UWA. I am looking for a great project team to help me develop a WeChat mini-program that will allow my colleagues and me to collect information from Chinese international students through questionnaires.
A workable mini-program should have the following key features:
- An initiative interface that allows researchers to upload multiple-choice (including the choices for each question) and short-answer (include textbox for answers) questions;
- A user-friendly interface for Chinese international students to answer questions on their mobile phones;
- The ability to collect and send the data (i.e. answers to the questions) to a storage place;
- The ability to allow researchers to export data in CSV format
- The ability to allow students to resume their unfinished questions
Besides, an ideal mini-program should also have the following functions (in the order of decreasing necessity):
- Allow follow-up questions to be presented when a student answers a question in a certain way
- Allow the answers of the multiple-choice questions to appear in a random order
- Allow some questions to only appear to a randomly selected sub-group of students OR allow a particular questionnaire to appear to a randomly selected sub-group of students (i.e. the researchers will prepare, say, three questionnaires and each questionnaire is shown to 1/3 of students) -- This will make it possible for survey-based field experiments
- Exploit the APIs allowed by Wechat to record 'background' information (such as the amount of time they used to complete the questionnaire and the place where they take the survey) -- I can work the team to prepare a consent/privacy statement if we reach this stage
