Bee Product Quality Assurance Database and Webapp
The B-QUAL food safety program is a voluntary program for beekeepers and honey processing businesses ensuring that the honey industry's standards conform to best practice, comply with relevant legislation and meet domestic and international market demands. As part of their B-QUAL certification responsibilities members must maintain detailed records of the quality and status of their hives, processing equipment, processing practices and final product. Currently, much of this record keeping is completed using paper based record systems, making audits both difficult and time consuming and restricting access to valuable aggregated data regarding the state of the Australian honey industry.
This project involves development of a prototype digital system for bee keepers to fulfil their B-QUAL record keeping responsibilities. The project can roughly be divided into three parts which would be developed simultaneously:
-
A database for maintaining records required by B-QUAL
-
A reporting mechanism for querying this database to provide both aggregated and individual data for use by AHBIC and B-QUAL auditors this may take the form of real time dashboards or more formal monthly, semi-annual and annual reports
-
A web and/or mobile app for B-QUAL certified businesses to input their records
The project may require onsite visits to bee keepers and honey product packagers to understand their processes.
