Data Processing Software for U-Pb Isotopic Dating and Trace-Element Composition of Zircons
The project goal is to create Python (scipy) based software to process the CSV-format
output data files obtained from Glitter.
The Glitter file format requires formatting, sorting and statistics analysing
before the data might be used for further processing and interpretation.
This software will help to process large datasets obtained during zircons study.
Manual processing now is taking a long time, especially in cases when hundreds
analyses are involved.
There is an existing Mac-compatible analogue, however it was created
long time ago and does not work with the recent versions of Mac and Windows.
The project might be subdivided for two groups working with U-Pb isotopic
data and trace-element composition.
The first one needs to format the file containing ratios, ages, errors
and concentrations. Some calculations, statistics and sorting are required.
The examples of input and output files will be provided as well as formulas
and references needed.
Second group would work on trace-element data obtained for zircons.
This work is mainly focused on statistical analyses of the data,
including classification using certain parameters and plotting the
data points on the diagrams with rock fields. All parameters for classification and diagrams are known. The input and output files are available.
As it was mentioned, this work has been done for older Mac system
and the code is accessible.
