Sleep diary app

Sleep diaries are used to document subjective sleep quality and quantity. Sleep diaries typically require a person to note the time that they got into bed and attempted to fall asleep, the time spent awake during the night and the time that they woke in the morning. They are used by those in the general population who have an interest in their sleep but are largely used by people under the clinical care of a sleep physician/psychologist or researchers for investigation/treatment of sleep disorders. Sleep diaries significantly improve the specificity of actigraphy which is often used for quantifying sleep over many nights. However, sleep diaries are predominantly paper-based and there is no known sleep diary app in existence. The ability to enter data into a smartphone/tablet is likely to increase compliance for completion and with an inbuilt capacity to download the data it will allow monitoring by care-givers and researchers.
