Using Economic Experiments to Demonstrate the Principles of Successful Biosecuirty Cooperation to Farmers

The project entails programming in ZTree to develop economic experiments that allow students to act as if they are farmers in decisions relating to managing damaging crop pests. An initial version of the experiment was successfully used last year in a Psychology student's Honours thesis. This year Ben White (School of Agricultural and Resource Economics) and Mark Hurlstone (Psychology) would like to make the game more sophisticated by adding in a screen that allows participants to calculate gains and losses from their decisions during the game. We would also like to use a new version of ZTree that allows us to use the games with farmers. The online extension of the software has already been developed by the University of Zurich.

In summary, the project would be to develop a new economic experiment that will be used in the Behavioural Economics Lab in Psychology and adapt the experiment for online use by farmers.
