D-light: A game and learning aid for kids and teens

The research of the Project D-Light team at the Telethon Kids Institute aims better understand the health benefits and harms of sun exposure. We are all taught to wear hats and sunscreen for sun protection, and may be aware of some of the health benefits of sun exposure, like vitamin D synthesis for healthy bones. However, many people are confused as to how they can safely use sun exposure to get their vitamin D. With a cohort of students from last year, we developed an interactive (iOS) game for the iPad, which teaches kids and teens about sensible sun exposure for optimal health. The game is well on its way to being completed but needs further development. There may also be an opportunity to develop the game for an android platform if time permits.
