Offshore Project Safe Toolbox
Develop an app to display past safety incidents during the deck crew pre-shift meeting, on an offshore construction vessel. Safety flashes are available from the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA), the National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (NOPSEMA) as well as other sources. Safety flashes will be input by an administrator, and downloaded onto the iPad so it can be accessed easily during the pre-shift meetings. Deck supervisors will search for a relevant past incident from the app, appropriate to the task at hand, to present to the crew and hence remind them of potential hazards.
This project will be run with the Offshore Project
Safe (OPS) forum - it is a committee
dedicated to improving safety in the Oil & Gas industry.
In summary, the app for the proposed project would have the following specifications and features:
- App for the iPad, with options for other platforms.
- Simple and usable front end GUI with keyword searching and navigation of menus/categories.
- Flexible layout and structure for the presentation of content.
- Back end with access to offline database/collection of past safety incidents, with categories/keywords.
- The app will need to be used on an offshore vessel, ie. with no access to the internet.
- Flexible implementation and structure of backend storage.
- Easy to add new content to the app to central database or within the app itself.
- Option: Backend able to handle videos and text/images.
- Option: Automatic parsing of new content in a standard format.
- Option: TV connection functionality via the iOS API.
